Women's Loss of a Spouse or Partner Support Group

If you have lost your spouse or partner, you don’t have to carry this alone. Griefwalk offers a safe, compassionate space to honour your loss, begin to find steady ground again, and connect with other women who truly understand.

“I didn’t realize how much I needed to sit with other women who truly understood.” – Past Participant

What this group is

This is an 8-week, in-person support group for women 18+, meeting one evening per week. It is a closed group, meaning participants register in advance and the group remains the same for the full 8 weeks to build trust and continuity.

Griefwalk uses a peer-based approach, guided by two trained Facilitators and a Host, to help you understand your grief, share at your own pace, and learn practical coping strategies.

Location: Held in person at Lakeside Church in Guelph.

Open to all: Griefwalk is a community-based program that welcomes individuals of every religion, ethnicity, background, and orientation. We are committed to creating a respectful and non-judgmental environment where all feel safe and supported.

While Griefwalk is hosted within a church setting, the content of our support groups is not religious in nature and is open to all.

Facilitator  & Hosting Skills Training

Interested in volunteering with Griefwalk as a Support Group Facilitator or Host?

Who is this training for:

Hosts (new and existing): If you are interested in becoming a host for our 8-week support group programs, then this is mandatory training to become approved.

Facilitators (existing): If you are an existing facilitator then this session is an annual requirement to maintain your approved status as a Griefwalk Facilitator

Facilitators (New): This is one of the two training sessions needed to become a fully approved facilitator.

The key learning objectives are:

  • Identify the role of support groups and the basic needs of support group members.
  • List the essential qualities of support group facilitators.
  • Distinguish between group support versus therapy and facilitation versus presenting or training.
  • Employ facilitation skills with increased competence and ease.
  • Deal more effectively with challenging situations and behaviours in a support group.

If you’re drawn to creating safe, compassionate spaces for others who are grieving, we’d love to have you consider joining the Griefwalk facilitation and hosting team.

Golf for Griefwalk

In 2022, we proudly hosted our inaugural Griefwalk golf tournament, an annual fundraising event dedicated to supporting the vital work of Griefwalk. This event was established with the goal of raising funds to cover the operating costs of the Griefwalk program, ensuring that it remains free and accessible to all who need it.

By participating in Golf for Griefwalk, you're directly contributing to the continued success and growth of this life-changing program, making a meaningful impact on those who need it most.

Thanks for joining us in 2025.  We'll be back in 2026.
